Chapter 3: Reborn in the 1980s, I became the Stepmother of Two Children

Chapter 3

Witnessing this, the cripple turned and hobbled away. Moments later, Lin Yue heard Xiaoxiu's cries echoing from the courtyard. "No! Don't touch me! If I leave, I'll have to marry you!"

"Let go of her, you brute! Let go of my sister!" Xia Dongtian's voice reverberated throughout the courtyard.

Panic surged through Lin Yue. She shoved Xia Kun aside and sprinted towards the source of the commotion.

"Stop!" Lin Yue yelled, rushing over to the doorway as she saw the crippled man dragging Xiaoxiu away.

"She's only eight years old!" Lin Yue protested. "If you take her now, I'll report you to the brigade for kidnapping a minor. You'll go to jail!"

The crippled man sneered. "Kidnapping? Nonsense. I paid the bride price. She's coming home with me. Report it if you want. By tonight, it'll be too late. Once we're done with the deed, no one will be able to take her away anyway."

The cripple behaved exactly how a ruffian would - he held a sinister and despicable look on his face that made him sickening to look at.

Lin Yue was furious. She grabbed a nearby pole and swung it towards the cripple's head:

"If you dare take her away today, I'll kill you right now."

With a furious swing, the pole connected squarely with the man's body. The impact sent a jolt of pain through him.

"Oh my God, you fat woman, you really hit me! he shrieked, clutching his shoulder and back. His disability prevented him from dodging the blow. "Help! Sister-in-law!"

He could only plead for help while covering his head with his hands.

Lin Yue's anger burned. She despised men like him who were idle and lecherous. This one, in particular, triggered memories of her cheating ex.

Fueled by rage, she swung the pole again and again. The commotion drew Xia Kun outside, who rushed to intervene, grabbing for Lin Yue's arm.

But Lin Yue wouldn't give her a chance. With a hefty bump of her own body, she sent Xia Kun sprawling.

"Ouch!" Xia Kun cried out, her small frame unable to withstand Lin Yue's force, landing hard on the ground with a thud.

Lin Yue backed away, retrieved the pole, and rained down blows in quick succession. Only after a few strikes did exhaustion finally set in. Her breath hitched in heavy gasps, which reminded her of her limited strength.

"Oh, stop, stop! Someone will die if you keep hitting like this," Xia Kun rasped, her voice hoarse from the pain.

Exhausted, Lin Yue panted heavily. Her body was indeed too weak, and she felt drained after just a few swings.

"You two, get up and get out now," Lin Yue said fiercely, panting heavily as she held the pole and backed away, glaring coldly at them.

Lin Yue, a formidable presence at 1.75 metres and well over 200 kilograms, stood guard at the courtyard entrance.  The pole she grasped radiated unwavering resolve.  Her size and determined demeanour created an aura of invincibility, a force no one dared challenge.

The eyepatch she wore only added to the impression of a powerful protector, her gaze unwavering.

The cripple was stunned, clearly not expecting Lin Yue to be so difficult to deal with.

Before he could react, Xia Dongtian rushed out and sank his teeth into the man's wrist.

"Ah, you little brat, you bit me!" the cripple roared, swinging at Xia Dongtian in anger.

Xia Dongtian agilely dodged the blow, showing his anger like an enraged tiger ready to attack. "Touch her again," he snarled, "and I'll tear you apart!"

Seething with rage, the cripple barely registered Lin Yue's sharp command to Xia Dongtian.

Lin Yue's eyes flickered, and she raised her voice to Xia Dongtian, "Dongtian, go to the brigade and find the team leader and village head. Tell them that there is a cripple attempting abduction."

Xia Dongtian was briefly stunned, mainly because he didn't expect Lin Yue's attitude to change so suddenly.

"Hurry up, what are you waiting for? If the village head and team leader don't help, go straight to the police station in town."

"Are you trying to let him take my sister while I'm away?" Xia Dongtian growled angrily, his face full of resentment.

Lin Yue's expression hardened. "Don't you worry," she vowed solemnly, "I, Lin Yue, swear on my life that I'll protect Xiu Er. No one will take her away."

T/L: The author suddenly changed Xiu Er’s name to Xiao Xiu (I guess it’s a form of endearment / easier name calling)

Basically if someone’s name is now Apple Smith, what the author did was basically change it to “Small Apple”, kinda like a nickname vibes so the English equivalent of this would be Alexandra → Alex (basically)
