Chapter 13: Working hard to be an evil stepmother
After pondering for a long time, she thought of the loaches and eels by the river at the village entrance.
These creatures have high nutritional value, but because of their strong earthy smell, most people don't like to eat them.
Especially the loaches, which were small and slippery, most people living nearby wouldn't be willing to touch them unless they were desperate.
But if she could sell them to restaurants in the city, they would fetch a high price.
Lin Yue thought like this, but whether they could truly be sold for a good price would only be known after trying.
This small river flowed out of the mountains as spring water, passing through Xiajia Village, where people from miles around called it the Daqing River.
Today, the sun was shining brightly, which made the river’s surface sparkle. Lin Yue stood by the riverbank with a bucket, her eye mask already taken off. She opened her magical eye and indeed saw the little creatures swimming beneath the mud.
"It's an eel," about a metre away, there was a thick fellow swimming vigorously under the mud.
Lin Yue was overjoyed. She rolled up her sleeves and stepped forward, reaching out to dig.
She was so focused on watching the eel that she inadvertently ignored the muddy ground beneath her feet. Especially after taking a few steps forward, she sank heavily into the mud.
"Ah!" Lin Yue exclaimed. Her body was too fat and heavy, destabilising her centre of gravity, and she eventually toppled into the river.
Panicking, Lin Yue's heart raced. It wasn't summer now, so although it was warmer, the river water was still cold.
So her falling into the river meant that it wasn’t very pleasant at all.
Lin Yue tried to flip over to stabilize her body, but her body was too heavy. She hadn't even gotten used to her weight of over two hundred pounds yet. Despite her efforts, instead of flipping over, she only accelerated her fall.
Lin Yue resigned herself and closed her eyes.
Just as she was about to hit the water, suddenly, a big hand reached out and grabbed her arm.
The expected icy coldness did not come. Lin Yue opened her eyes and found her face only a fist away from the surface of the water, but because of gravity, her hair had fallen into the water.
With a pull, the big hand behind her suddenly fished her out.
Lin Yue steadied herself, turned around, and instantly froze.
Heavens, was she dreaming? In such a rural area, she could still see such a handsome and elegant man.
The man looked to be in his early twenties, with healthy wheat-coloured skin, a square face, thick eyebrows, and big eyes. His thick lips gave him an extremely stable feeling.
This kind of man didn't have the greasy feeling of a gigolo, nor the roughness of a countryman. Instead, he perfectly blended the two.
Her first impression of him was: "Man, man, man."
"Are you okay?" The man didn't look down on Lin Yue because of her dark complexion and obesity; instead, he exuded a genuine sense of sincerity.
Because they were too close, the uniquely masculine youthful scent sprayed out, landing between Lin Yue's breaths.
Lin Yue's heart suddenly throbbed fiercely, accelerating its rhythm.
"I-I'm fine," Lin Yue blushed, but because she was dark-skinned, her blush wasn't visible.
Only she could feel that her face was burning hot.
She withdrew her arm from the man's hand, took a step back uneasily.
"Um, thank you."
Lin Yue wondered if she was crazy. Her heart was pounding for a stranger.
"You're from Xiajia Village, right? I haven't seen you before," the man took a step back, still curious.
