Chapter 18: Father
"Damn, this blind bear is quite fierce. We can't even beat her," someone shouted.
"Why bother? Let's jump through the window and snatch the brat directly."
As soon as that voice spoke up, Lin Yue's heart skipped a beat.
"Why didn't you say so earlier? Watch me." With that, Lin Yue heard the sound of the window being smashed.
"Ah, get out, get out!" Dongtian’s ferocious screams could be heard.
"Brother, help me!" Xiu’er was quick to follow.
"Don't you touch my sister!" Hoarse screams from Dongtian and cries from Xiu’er soon ensued.
Lin Yue panicked. With a forceful twist of her leg, she kicked away the person rushing towards her, then turned and burst into the room, all the while holding onto the fireplace poker.
"Get out!" Lin Yue saw a boy pulling Xiu’er and instinctively swung the fireplace poker at him, aiming for his head.
The boy instinctively covered his head. Taking advantage of this, Lin Yue pulled Xiu’er away and lifted her up, then rushed out without hesitation.
"Xiu'er, find a way to escape and go to the brigade to find the party secretary."
Even Xia Dongtian was stunned. Seeing Lin Yue carrying Xiu'er and running out, he didn't have time to confront her. He hurriedly followed her out.
Because Lin Yue had to carry Xiu'er and protect her from harm, even though she swung the fireplace poker with one hand, she couldn't fend off all the attacks.
In no time, Lin Yue's shoulders and back were struck ten or more times. Even though she had tough skin, it still hurt a lot to be beaten like this.
But she couldn't afford to think about that now.
Someone struck her wrist with a stick, causing Lin Yue's hand to jerk, and the fireplace poker fell to the ground. She didn't have time to pick it up. Instead, she hugged Xiu'er tightly and bent over to charge forward.
"Wah, Mother, Mother!" Xiu'er, being just a child, had never seen such a scene before and wailed loudly in Lin Yue's arms.
Lin Yue didn't have time to comfort the child. She pushed forward with all her might. Her only thought today was that even if she died here, she couldn't let those people take the child away.
Finally, just as she was about to reach the gate of the courtyard, someone struck her from behind with a stick, hitting her hard on the back of her head.
Lin Yue felt her head buzz, her vision went black for a Motherent, and she almost lost her balance and fell to the ground.
She gritted her teeth, desperately trying to keep herself from falling. She managed to steady herself and continued to carry Xiu'er out of the courtyard gate.
At that Motherent, a tall and imposing figure approached from the front.
Lin Yue almost immediately recognized the person as the man who had helped her catch eels during the day.
She didn't have time to think much. She quickly stuffed Xiu'er into the man's arms and weakly exclaimed, "Protect her at all costs. Don't let them have her. Go find the village secretary."
With that said, Lin Yue could no longer hold on. Her vision blurred, and she fainted.
Just before losing consciousness, she heard Xiu'er calling out, "Father."
Lin Yue had a dream. In the dream, she returned to her original time and saw the scene of the car accident when she was hit, as well as her ex-boyfriend holding her silent body.
Standing beside her body, Lin Yue looked at her almost flattened face and felt a sense of being in a different world.
Then she heard the scumbag whisper softly, "I'm sorry, Lin Yue. I've never loved you. You were just someone I took comfort in when I was lonely, akin to that of a gentle breeze passing through. I only craved your tenderness. However, as time went on, I lost my job and could only rely on your money to survive. I didn't dare to leave you, yet I've never loved you."
The scumbag said something else afterwards, but Lin Yue couldn't make out what he said clearly. She felt her body becoming lighter and lighter, as if she was drifting away.
"Mother, wake up! Xiu'er misses you."
Suddenly, Xiu'er's clear voice drifted into her ears.
"Xiu'er, " Lin Yue's heart jolted, and memories flooded back to her in an instant. She sat up abruptly, yelling "Xiu'er!"
Lin Yue's heart finally settled when she saw Xiu'er kneeling by her bed.
"Mother, you're awake! That's great!" Xiu'er was overjoyed, her delicate little face almost turning into a kitten crying.
"Xiu'er, you're alright. That's great." Lin Yue reached out and stroked the child's head, finally feeling relieved.
Just then, the door was pushed open, and unfamiliar footsteps approached.
Xiu'er turned her head and sweetly called out, "Father."
Lin Yue was taken aback, her body stiffening at the sound. Slowly, she turned her head and was shocked to see the man who had helped her catch eels during the day standing by the door.
"Ah, you... you..." Lin Yue was speechless, her mouth gaping in astonishment.
"Mother, he's Father,” she introduced the two, “Father's back, and he's the one who chased away those bad people." Xiu'er happily ran over and hugged Xia Qingshan whilst turning to explain to Lin Yue.
"Hehe." Lin Yue awkwardly smiled.
"Father, I’m passing by!" Xiu’er’s voice rang out.
Xia Qingshan gave Lin Yue a cold, indifferent look, then bent down gently to stroke Xiu'er's hair.
"Good girl, go play with your brother."
"Okay, Father. Even though Mother sold Xiu'er, Xiu'er still likes Mother."
With that, Xiu'er happily ran out of the door.
Lin Yue blushed at Xiu'er's words.
Xia Qingshan walked up to her and looked at her with complex and cold eyes.
"Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere? Any dizziness?"
A/N: Why does it seem more and more complex….
